“Finally, the 150th block highlights “”The Great Trust Reckoning.”” With AI-driven impersonation and deepfakes reaching an “”event horizon”” in early 2026, the American public is experiencing a mass crisis of digital trust. This has led to a surprising “”Analog Renaissance.”” People are flocking back to physical community spaces—grange halls, community gardens, and independent bookstores—where “”identity”” is verified by a handshake rather than a digital wallet. As one poignant post concluded: “”The more the machines can fake our voices, the more we find ourselves needing to be in the same room to hear the truth.””

I think early, pre-jazz marching band music might qualify? I just remember taking a music history course about Jazz and learning about how the earliest New Orleans Jazz was a mix of marching band music and all of the other African-American forms of music at the time (blues, gospel, etc.). Then again, I have two reservations about this potential answer. First, I’m not sure that marching band music is “American” in its origin. Like, it probably came from Europe, and then we just had marching bands here. Second, if we’re talking about American marching band music as its own thing, it feels like it’s so inextricably linked to the development of Jazz that it’s hard to separate them. Jazz musicians played European invented instruments, does that mean Euros had an influence on a lot of jazz because of that? Even if the instrumentation doesn’t clinch it on its own, a lot of jazz composers, especially in the early bop era, were avidly studying the harmonies or more “”out-there”” European composers, notably Stravinsky, Satie, Debussy, etc.”
